Observation details
A woodpecker caught our attention while walking because of its lack of white markings. Back appeared solid black, as well as the head except for a white mustache stripe (likely an adult female bird). Watched for about one minutes as it foraged sporadically on some spruce before it fled the scene (flying northeast-ish). Managed to get some of the worst photographs ever. We saw it in a dense mature spruce-pine stand beside the road. I’ve seen this species once before in Baxter.
