Observation details
Fabulous views of first-winter bird discovered this morning and twitched. A small Shrike with greyish upperparts and creamy white underparts and reddish tail. The ear coverts were very thin and dark forming a weak mask. The supercilium was very faint and lores pale. The eyes were dark blackish and the bill pink with darker tip. The primaries and tertials were dark brown with much pale creamy secondaries - these forming a pale panel. Faint crescent markings adorned the flanks, which were washed buff. Photographed. A harsh 'chattering' call was heard by David Walsh, myself and others and faintly recorded due to distance and extraneous noise.
