Observation details
juvenile; my first for NCTX; have photos somewhere if I can find them.. I know BG has very good photos. A very large "peep" type (Calidris), stout, short pale legs, pale supercilium and dark transocular - most distinctive feature being the extensively scalloped look above, made by crisp white fringes to all upperparts feathers (juvenal). Straight dark mid length bill. Have seen probably thousands on the coast but this is the first inland knot I've seen. Seen and studied at leisure at very close range in excellent light with afternoon sun behind us. This bird was reported at least as early as 30 Aug by Jack Chiles who may be the finder, and stuck around for several days to be seen by other birders.
