Observation details

WOO!!!! First heard a couple metres off the trail at approx 7:08am. Continued calling at that distance for about 20 minutes, then heard right next to the trail. Followed the sound and briefly got some fairly clear views in the foliage, and obscured views for a more sustained time. Good view of its tail, its most distinguishing feature. Vocalising like crazy, super dynamic and diverse repertoire, + white edging to throat so a male. Heard mimicking eastern yellow robin, fan-tailed cuckoo, rufous fantail, scarlet honeyeater and white-throated treecreeper (got recordings of all mimicries but the first). Coordinates are -28.2413101, 153.1509634, but may be inaccurate due to lack of reception. Took photos near location, and Cian got a photo of the bird. Lifer for me, Bella! LET’S GO!!!

Additional species

  • Australian Rufous Fantail Rhipidura rufifrons
  • Golden Whistler Pachycephala pectoralis
