Observation details
Southwest Quads just a completely full sky. The further I zoomed/focused further it was just an overwhelming amount to count. Went by screen lines— 400x45, Central Plains I tried to count by glass and maybe got to 50 a bin to 12 in a focal zone— 600 x 12— East beach sectors were easier; maybe only 50 per and then running down the coast visually —100 x 50. Runway was active but there’s no burrows so it’s really just overflow from the quads or sectors— looking out to north point was tough as I had to look through the plains’ birds— knowing burrow density up there being similar to the quads but with greater heliotrope amount, I’m estimating it’s a 6 x 500. This is my high count for the season, thinking it would be worthwhile to get a survey SOP in the works. Anyways, that’s what up. 18000 7200 5000 3000 — I’m doing my best to count these fellas. Wish everyone could see this, maybe will put a video on instagram or something. Honestly these birds are such an optimistic conservation story— get rid of the rats and mice and ants and keep feral cats out of a system and you’ll have thousands of nunulu flying about and calling
