Observation details
I believe this is the first area record! When I first found it it was sleeping with the Canadas on the west area of beach, but over the next couple hours as the geese got chased off, it moved back and forth with the other geese. Tiny goose (nearly Mallard sized) with all-black head and neck, contrasting with a medium gray body. Prominent white wingbars. Rolling call. Immature. My impression is that bird is neither Atlantic nor Pacific but a Gray-bellied "Western High-Arctic" bird? Note that the geese use this location primarily mid-day and are generally not present first thing in the morning. The bird flew out of here with the other geese at about 3:10 today, but I would guess that it will probably come back midday tomorrow. Media to come.
