Observation details

I assume they were all immatures, most feeding at a seed feeder, some below the feeder. Brown above and paler tan below, most showed the beginnings of those fringed feathers for which the species is named, most often on the flanks. Just a few of those feathers on each bird. Closest bird in photo also shows several such feathers on breast. All had thick gray bill with darker upper mandible.
