Observation details
A young bird flew over with a kettle of Turkey Vultures. Good views, although a little distant. Eastbound, towards the main campus, but moving quickly. A large lanky hawk, with very pointed wings, and slightly flared secondaries. Mostly whitish below, but some dark visible on the head and along most of the trailing edge of the wing. Tail fairly long, squared at the tip. Underside of primaries looked barred, but didn't see this well. Pale supercilium. Wing shape wrong for all other Buteos, closer to a harrier or Mississippi Kite in that regard, but not one of those species based on the many plumage features described above. Photos
