Observation details
Irruption year for this species (and others such as Evening Grosbeaks). We went there specifically to see these wonderful jays, they are normally very rare in Tx. A large flock (160+) of Pinyon Jays has been at this area since about Dec 7, 2022. Unfortuntely we did not get the hoped for close-up views that some observers have had, but still feel lucky that we got to see them. After waiting for a couple hours, the flock flew past us about 0.3-0.4 miles away; we heard them coming before we saw the flock.
