Observation details
Staked out since Saturday. A longer hummingbird than nearby Anna's and Black-chinned. Tail extended past wing tips a bit further than in Anna's. Wing beats made trilling sound as it passed overhead. Gorget was rose red, not magenta. Gorget color stopped at bottom edge of auriculars. There was no red anywhere else on the head. From the auriculars, a grayish-white area ran behind the eye then narrowly extended under the eye to the base of the lower mandible. The clean white breast framed the gorget at the corners in some views. Crown, back of head, and mantle were greenish. Flanks were greenish but central belly was white. Perched in fairly erect posture for short periods of time at feeder while Anna's and Black-chinned came and went.
