Observation details

The last part of a vocal contest between two birds. When the first bird initially heard the second bird (both of them "mewing"), it flew in its direction and began to call more loudly, intensely, and rapidly. By the time I fetched my recorder, it had calmed down a bit and after moving off between 0:43 and 0:51 it stopped calling. The second bird, which had never replied with anything but a garden-variety "mew," remained where it was and for a minute (starting at 1:10) gave what Cornell's Birds of the World terms "quirt" calls. I didn't record all of these, but stopped after 20 seconds.
