Fledgling being fed.
Observation details
Only one fledgling could be found. The parents were flying around and calling, seemingly as though they were trying to locate the last nestling seen in the morning. Having confirmed that the parents were no longer going back to the nest, I climbed up the concrete railing so that I could look into the nest. There was a dead nestling in it, but one nestling was still missing. Contacted Vanya from the CUMV, who took the dead nestling for their collection. He also helped me locate the missing nestling: it died outside the nest under the tree the nest was located in. So most likely, the dead nestling in the nest had died yesterday (since I only saw two nestlings begging that evening), while the dead nestling under the tree was the one still in the nest this morning, and probably fell off while trying to fledge later in the day. I buried the dead nestling under the tree near where it fell. This is my last checklist involving the nest. To summarise, I first noticed the nest on Aug 22, and followed it for 24 days. The first hatchling appeared on Aug 28, and two more appeared on Aug 29. One nestling probably died in the nest on Sep 13, and the other died while trying to fledge on Sep 14. One successfully fledged, and I hope that it is still doing well. Thanks, Jay, for not complaining about the 3-4GB of videos that I uploaded over this period, even though they were not of very good quality. I took about 18GB of videos; anyone interested in the videos are welcome to contact me.
