Observation details
Continued sighting all summer long at known nesting location. 5 cygnets observed in June, and 4 during August and Sept. Reported sightings to Blackfoot Challenge, to Swan Lake State Wildlife Office, and to Swan Valley Connections. Red-collared male was reintroduced by a tribe (east of Glacier Park), and the female by Blackfoot Challenge. This pair bonded and used the habitat for 3 breeding seasons before having first brood and have raised young each year since. The same nest is used each year. I seek a way to educate the public about this special conservations story, and have proposed an interpretive sign to be placed. People need to be encouraged to not disturb this family unit. There is increasing use for fishing, recreation, and birding.
