Observation details
Adult bird seen at the end of the airport dike trail. The supraloral area of this bird is black, whereas that area in the Gambel's White-crowned Sparrow, the common subspecies locally, is grayish. Some features of this bird, such as the extent to which the white supercillium bleeds into the black loral stripe, suggest that it could be an intergrade. Note that the bird appears to have been feeding on berries, which may account for the pinkish tone in the bill.
