Observation details
A juv male found today by Fred Hochstaedter in a line of tall elms adjacent to 360 Dickman. Fred told me about it just after I arrived. it was working existing 'sapsucker holes' at mid-height in the first and second elm from the street. Rita arrived shortly afterward, as did the Roses, and Rita and Carole Rose will have photos. The sapsucker was a juv still with much brown juvenal body plumage, with brown chest, brown on crown and facial pattern (brown where it will be black later the face pattern), extensive pale barring on the back washed with warm buffy-brown, but black-and-white wing coverts. Throat was washed with a light buff but with a few red feathers in the throat, looking "pink" at a distance.
