Observation details
Flew in from north and I thought it was a Sanderling but on flyby noticed dark cap and black face patch and it landed in the water in the channel. It then flew back near me onto the beach and I had a clear look at its relatively short (for a phalarope) black beak and mostly solid gray back. It seemed rather chunky unlike a slender Wilson’s or Red-necked Phalarope. I was able to get my camera and it swam right up to me on the pier. Did not seem concerned with me or the other birders that arrived after me. Great sunny conditions and several photos will be added.
