Observation details
They were cavorting on and around Buddah and bathing in the pool below. The birds had crossed bills, hence crossbills. They were not white-winged crossbills, because they lacked white wingbars. There was a first year variant as shown in Sibley that did have some restricted white in the wing. One of the photographers said Merlin had reported Cassia Crossbill; they were evidently quiet while I was there or Merlin was napping, but it seems to me there is quite a bit of uncertainty about this "species".
