Observation details
Found earlier in day by Nat Drumheller, but at that time he was unable to get an ID due to the poor light and furtive behavior. We were able to relocate the bird and Nat determined it to be a Magnolia Warbler. Patty Rose and I remained at the sight for a bit longer and we each were able to get a few photographs. Grayish crown and face, white eye ring, a bit lighter gray nape, photo shows a subtle gray band down the side of the neck leading toward the base of the throat; the upper back slightly olive toned, yellow throat and breast with a white vent and undertail coverts. The underside of the tail showed a white base and broad black terminal band. This is apparently diagnostic for this species in all plumages. There were two thin white wing bars, and there were a few faint dark streaks on the flanks. The characteristics would indicate a hatch-year bird. Given the location of the bird, we were hesitant to post on Eaglechat.
