Observation details
Immature bird in woods south of parking lot. Immediately struck me as a Buteo but the long tail quickly ruled that out. Large, bulky Astur with medium thickness bands on tail. White dotted V pattern on backside. Flying directly perch to perch. Some indication of a dark patch behind the eye? Tail feathers very worn. I want this to be goshawk, but very difficult to distinguish from a large female COHA. Bad photos.
