Observation details
I took the pictures with a Nikon Z6 II using a 400 mm lens. I counted the birds in one of these images by simply counting them one by one. I rounded up to 150 but my actual count was 146. I identified the birds by examining the image closely. Also, another bird enthusiast I happened to meet on the trail spontaneously volunteered that she believed the birds to be semipalmated plovers. I visit this location frequently but I have never seen a large flock of this species before so I understand how unusual it is! The location I selected in the Checklist in the eBird app was a hotspot on the map presented to me: https://ebird.org/hotspot/L969765. You can see the muddy pannes (which in other times are flooded with water) in the images.
