Observation details
First found by Susie Ryan and posted on the MAINE Birds Facebook group on Oct. 11, 2025. Refound later by Donna Reis, who captured some better photographs: https://ebird.org/checklist/S278639181 When we arrived the bird was very distant, but our first impression was that it was not as small in comparison to the canada geese as we would expect. We never got closer views, but reviewing Donna's photos, believe this not to be a pure Ross's Goose. In addition to the size impression, Donna's images reveal a slightly convex shape along the culmen helping produce a small grin patch with a swollen lip look. In addition, we think the bill shape looks a little large.
