Observation details
2nd accepted Morris County record found earlier this morning by Carolyn Rubinfeld. Juvenile gallinule foraging at the edge of phragmites viewed in a pond accessed from the first clearing west of the white canal house. The pond is on the south side of the path. It was visible sporadically during the observation period. Many observers were present. Some purplish splotches appearing on the chest and other parts. The gallinule had periods of activity and seemed to favor the edge habitat seen in the morning by Carolyn and the phragmites to the right of that area. Despite viewers being present, the gallinule went missing for hours until Ben Banaag and this writer saw it at ~13:00. It was in view off and on for the next few hours.
