Observation details
Two seen well; one or two other "probables" flushed. The two flushed into a stand of tall Johnson Grass, which was not dense, and allowed me to see them perched at various heights. See photos. I watched from 10 meters for 25 minutes. Initially, one of the birds bobbed nervously with cocked tail for a few minutes. Afterward, it seemed to forage and move around, dropping low then perching up again. Two were in view together for a minute. Habitat is upland, level, dry forby grassland, with vegetation mostly waist-high, plus or minus a foot. Pin for Johnson grass patch, approximately: - 39.289121, -87.359552 (200 meters north of French Road, inside field).
