Observation details
Continuing from yesterday - John Jose. Resting on the water near the back of the pond at a distance. Dark brown head without a white chinstrap, neck a lighter brown throughout, no white on breast, slight patch of pink on the bill, white feather edging on the back in parallel rows. Smooth white curve on the sides, separating flanks from folded wing. Large white area on the undertail and shorter neck than neighboring Canadas. Bill darker and smaller than a domestic goose. No white on the face as in White-fronted. Smaller size and shorter neck than bean goose. In the middle of the Canada Goose flock, which returned to the pond at 9:40 am. There was a strange call among the Canada calls; lower pitched, in the range of Virginia Rail, but not that species. Possibly the PFGO, but not sure.
