Observation details
Continuing this morning, spotted by Ian Swirka. Good views from my spotting scope. Archilochus-type hummingbird, bright white chin with faint stippling, a sharply contrasting dark green cap, a white postocular spot, relatively short bill, soft "ip"calls given briefly several times, but unable to get a recording. Access: Not at the park itself, but in the adjacent neighborhood, and though visible from a public path, active with walkers/bikers, the area is behind private homes, so respectful behavior encouraged (e.g., don't climb up the hill). Park only along Paseo Lunada: https://maps.app.goo.gl/xBjQ1tDAQchfyovY7 Cross the street and take the paved Rancho Carillo West Trail north/downhill about 250 feet, turning right onto the decomposed granite pathway, and continuing about 400 feet to to the northeast/east: https://maps.app.goo.gl/ngcGRPiCQnD7TLrU7 Looking up slope, the bird perches in the pepper tree to the left of the orange-flowering Cape Honeysuckle.
