Observation details
A conspicuously small duck near the back of the near pond after sunset. Through the scope it appeared good for the garganey that has been reported recently. However, on inspection of the (bad) photos I can’t convince myself of it (try as I might). Structurally, the bird appears too “dainty” and with too-subtle light markings on the face. The lack of black patterning meeting the lower bill rules out both of the individuals reported this weekend. But I’m posting the pictures in case somebody wants to prove me wrong—I’d be delighted to be wrong.
