Observation details
Archilochus hummingbird found previous day but not identified to species, so either Black-chinned or Ruby-throated giving soft “tew” notes typical of both species. Key characters are the bright medium to dark green upper parts, including the entire crown, very distinct face pattern, and that P 10 the outermost primary, which is often covered by P9 and 8, is actually fairly straight, somewhat narrow, and a bit pointy, which is typical of ruby throated, and not the broad, recurved, and truncate shape as it is in Black-chinned. Not at the historic park but in a residential neighborhood nearby. Details on access to seeing this bird will be posted elsewhere.
