Possible male Eastern x Mountain Bluebird hybrid. Rusty feathers in with blue on breast (believed not atypical of immature Mountain; blue feathers would not be typical of Eastern?) and rusty feathers on nape (characteristic of Eastern). Male Eastern Bluebird observed near nestboxes with female Mountain Bluebird much of summer prior to and after nestlings fledging. Unknown if biological or “surrogate” parent.
