Observation details

This bird was seen in a mixed flock. Our guide called out a couple of elaenia, including Forest, Green, and Gray-headed. I thought I had captured these poor photos of the Gray-headed Elaenia. When uploading the images to eBird, the AI detection system alerted me that at least one of them looked more like White-crested Elaenia. Admittedly, they look more like White-crested Elaenia based on personal examination of photos on the eBird web page. In particular, the darker eye, the plain face, the bold white wing bars, and the relatively prominent white head crest favor White-crested Elaenia to my eye. So, not wanting to rely exclusively on eBird AI algorithms to assign species, I have listed these as elaenia sp. If you are reading this and have enough expertise to assign these to the species level, please let me know.
