Observation details
On slick at 12:49 to 12:58; later re-encountered and seen a few times close to the boat. Set down on the water a few times within slick. First seen here: 26.483633,-96.206983 Largish dark Storm-Petrels with thick white band across the rump. Tails square ended. Somewhat stiff flight, similar to that of a shearwater. Appeared to be in active wing molt as is typical for Band-rumpeds ("Grant's"?) encountered in Texas Gulf waters this time of year. Most regularly detected Storm-Petrel species in the Western Gulf (at least within the frame of reference of the past decade or so as Leach's have been more scarcely reported).
