Observation details
Subadult materialized at 10:32 and hung with boat both circling and diving after flying fish until about 11:05. Excellent, extended, and close looks for the duration of its investigation of the boat. First spotted here: 26.337387,-96.589999 Subadult. Pale brownish tan underparts and slightly darker warm cinnamon-brown upperparts. Crown appeared slightly paler than rest of upperparts. Wings held bowed when gliding and floppy flight, narrow wings with pointed tips. Namesake glowing raspberry colored feet. Relatively thin pointed bill dirty bubblegum pink with darker tip. Bill tip appeared slightly bulbous (maybe an artifact of how narrow it was and the contrasting dark coloration). Pointed tail. Large, eyes with straw colored irises. Bluish lores. Gave two nasally "skew" calls. First Cameron County record of a species that has been increasing in the North/Western Gulf of Mexico and specifically Texas waters over the past five years.
