Observation details
1:25 pm. This little tern was relentlessly chased by gulls as it zig-zagged around over Lake Superior. Observed for a few minutes at close range (probably within 100 yards) were the small size of this tern, the dusky gray patches on the sides of the white throat, central breast and belly, and the black ear patches and hood which wrapped around the rear and top of the eyes. The upper wings were dark gray with blackish primaries. I only managed to get one poor photo of this bird, but I'm sure that others have better ones.
