Observation details
Continuing rarity first reported by Taylor Gervais on July 6, and then rediscovered by Jude Szabo on September 10. Found feeding on the grass in the treed area just east of the corner of Willow Ave. and First St. just before 7 AM; after about 10 minutes, it flew southwest; we relocated the bird at the top of a conifer on Second Ave., where we were able to get photos with the bird sitting in the sun; after a few minutes it flew to the west and out of sight. Unmistakable raptor with a black back, wings and cap, fluffy whitish neck, lightly banded shoulders and tail with black terminal band, yellow legs, and a pink face and bluish bill; white patches on the underside of the outer primaries visible in flight; photos by myself and Maria.
