Observation details
Lifer!! Continuing Rarity, enjoying the feast on the Kokanee Creek Salmon run, along with the Ravens, Mergansers, Ring-billed Gulls, Mallards, Ospreys… I got so lucky, came out to the park in a break between classes, thought I goofed, got to the mouth of the creek, and all the birds flew off. I desperately looked at all the gulls, hoping for the Sabine, but wasn’t there. Till about a minute later, one bird flew back into the creek. A shockingly small gull, about a third of the size of the ring-billed gulls. The Sabine had gray along the cap and down the neck, brownish gray wings with a scalloped pattern across the back. Dark legs with hints of red. Black short bill. Floating at the mouth of Kokanee Creek (49.6013622, -117.1241049). Photos
