Observation details
I counted those I could see with full black crown, ruling out Sandwich, Forster's, Least, Royal, etc. They seemed to all be turned to face us as we walked on the northwest side of the flock, perhaps because of us or the direction of the wind. Several did show a carpal bar from a different angle.
