Observation details
Continuing pair. Good scope views in the nice afternoon light. Pair roosting in the stand of dead trees in the middle of the plain. No black extending behind the eye, pale legs, both birds stretched their wings once each showing extensive black markings on the underwing. Both birds took flight at 1711 as the WBSE flew in with a fish and landed nearby to eat it, before both LWKI landed again at 1712 on different perches. Birds did not flush when a car went by at 1747. One bird took flight at 1748 when the WBSE left, flew over to the other bird, landed and called a few times with a harsh raspy note repeated four times (I’m pretty sure) then perched away again. Other bird came to join at 1752 where one called again. Both birds left at 1753 flying north towards the caravan park, calling a couple of times as they went. Nice to have seen this species during the day and night now, and heard them calling. What a treat!
