Observation details
Continuing bird first discovered by Paul Saraceni on September 3 and documented by him over several days. I showed up at first light this morning about the same time as Keith Maley, Liam Murphy, and Nina Bai, and it didn't take Nina long to locate the bird. Very much resembling a Semipalmated Plover, though no Semipalmateds were present. Compared to Semipalmated this bird had a slightly wider breast band, seemed longer-winged, with dark lores down to the gape, and lacking an orbital ring. Orange legs stood out. The bird gave the "tu-lip" call frequently and others obtained recordings. Comparing spectrograms in the field they appeared a better match for Common Ringed rather than Semipalmated. Photos reviewed in the field with others revealed an apparent lack of webbing between toes.
