Observation details

Trashed-looking bird near western end of lake. Breeding confirmed this year at the Japanese Tea Garden (FY on 6/5 per Rudy Wallen), not very far away. This bird may have been one of those local breeders; certainly it did not look like it had been in any condition to make a longer-distance movement very recently. Tailless and showing signs of heavy body molt; most remiges looked fresh but there were a couple ratty tertials sticking out at odd angles, perhaps almost at the point of being dropped. Photos.
