Observation details
Heard distinctive scratchy churr call. Located both a female and male, both adults, foraging on some quite large PICO. The location was betwee n the Medicine campground and the last campground, HQ I believe, and before Little Medicine Lake too. Recorded calls. This location has had reports of BBWO previously, including myself. This location's attraction is due to bug kill among lodgepole pine and Red Fir (I believe) species. No recording; vocalized intermittently I recall. Male seen for longest duration. Hairy sized, all black back, formidable bill longer than Hairy, forehead to crown: strong yellow patch, white streak base of bill under eye, widening towards nape at back of head where white streak ends.
