NOTES: Neotropical Institute Cut # 19. Bulk reel: 220 Nest study. a) 6:39 to 6:41 AM. "Series purr" calls by male (very faint, practically inaudible in the ambient noise) and a "burry purr" reply by female still in the nest. Quality: 2-. Level: 0. 203 tape. LN. Parabola pointed at nest from place on trail ~ 4 m. south of nest. Copied from N-IV-S left channel to N-4.2. (A blank of ~ 2" represents 50" of inactivity that was edited out.) More similar calls by male and two more by female: between these two the calls of the male became more audible as male apparently came down to the nest area. Female emerges from nest and begins tossing back leaves (1-23 from start of this cut). Male gives "series purrs," then some "rally calls." Female responds with whistles. Male continues calling and after some more rally calls, female responds with the calls that apparently signal she is about to leave; 1"-40" after emerging she flies to west for reunion with male. Quality: 2-. Level: 0. b) 9:03. Return of female to nest. The usual vocalizations for nest return were given. Quality: 2. Level: +3. 203 tape. LN. Parabola pointed along female's final approach path. Copied from N-IV-S left channel to N-4.2. Other Behaviors: Mate.
