Observation details
Saw an accipiter shaped hawk fly by rapidly with a magpie in its claws. By shape and size there is no other option but Goshawk. I had just been watching a young magpie (full sized but with baby gape) foraging by the waters edge and was continuing my walk. I suspect this was the prey. Yellowlegs put up quite a ruckus as it flew over Refound it from alarm calls of stellar jay. Could see the long tail, white supercilleom, and buffy breast I know this is not technically a rare bird, but I have certainly never seen one on this trail before. Of course I left the camera behind. Will upload terrible cell phone photos.
