Observation details
This is one of several found earlier this week by Ali Sheehey and companions, marking the first Kern county record for this species. A larger population of yet undetermined number is working the burned forest in both Kern and Tulare Counties on both sides of the Portuguese Creek drainage at this site (and presumably beyond). Back, wing coverts and tertials solidly black; white-speckled black flight feathers; sides strongly but narrowly barred w/ black; throat, chest and midline of underparts white; white mustache line on black face, yellow patch on otherwise black crown and nape; 3 toes visible in some photos.
