Observation details
The characteristic black eye patch stood out as the bird rested on a floating channel marker. The black markings did not extend behind the head (nape) nor the cap. At one point the bird shared the marker with a common tern and appeared to be slightly larger, however hard to detect with the long distance photos below. The bill was mostly black and appears to be thicker than the nearby common tern. Leg color yellowish. The primaries show a grayish dusky tip and not whiteish which indicates that this is probably an immature bird which has lost its way during migration.
