Observation details

Dense oak-juniper woodland, edge of canyon. Bird had flown in responding to vocalization playback, it perched less than 50 m away, remained perched unconcerned while I photographed and recorded its territorial call. This was an adult dark morph: rufous brown coloration, narrow, pale mask, and wing tips reaching just past the tail. Another bird, likely the light morph seen in area previously (Mark Haller, 22 Mar 2025; S220108761), called to the west, less than 100 m; this bird not photographed or recorded.
