Observation details
They were originally perched in the trees across the road and then flew and landed in the pecan trees by the driveway. I feel like I should mention this, so I used Merlin to get a sound recording because some of the calls sounded off, but I think it was just the calls from the juvenile and maybe the immature too, however Merlin did not list scissor tails as a possibility and listed both Couch’s and Western kingbird instead. I know that it was not a Couch’s kingbird making the sound and while I am not sure if that was a juvenile scissor tail or a juvenile western kingbird that was on the other side of the road I don’t think it was the source of the sound. So I think Merlin might be getting the calls of juvenile and maybe immature scissor tails mixed up with calls of Couch’s and Western kingbirds.
