Observation details
At approximately 9:30 the Turkey Vultures and Mississippi Kites that were resting/roosting in the cottonwoods along the White River, such as it is, started kettling above the trees. I noticed a white bird to the north of the main flight and saw that it was a Swallow-tailed Kite. It circled several times as it slowly drifted northward and eventually disappeared. It was easily recognizable with the entirely white head, underparts, and wing linings contrasting with the black flight feathers and tail. The tail was deeply forked with the central rectrices barley extending beyond the undertail coverts.
