Observation details
Possible elevation vagrant. Compared with other large tropical orioles expected in the area (Altamira, Streak-backed, Spot-breasted) using the Princeton Illustrated Checklist for Mexico & Central America, and the Merlin Bird ID photo guide, and Bar-winged seems to be the best fit. Another experienced birder familiar with the area also suggested Bar-winged upon consultation. The bird looks much more yellowish than orange, there were no light markings anywhere on the wings except for a thin whitish wing bar visible in all shots, and black on the face is more extensive than for any of the more regular tropical orioles. Most likely a younger female based on the extent of black on the face.
