Media notes

Behavior and other notes: Adult female Red-naped Sapsucker giving calls from a willow near the road at the edge of the ponds formed by Rock Creek. There was a young fledgling there as well. It was begging some until they noticed me (at 1:13). At that point, the FL became quiet and the female continued to call. At 3:01, she flys off leaving the FL in the willow. The FL was trying to hid behind a narrow branch in a similar manor as a meadow katydid does. The second cut is only the female calling, then flying off calling. Recorder HPF on at 80 Hz, -12 dB/octave.Channels: Mono. Distance to source: 10 meters. Recording Time: 0816 (UTC -5). Temperature 9.4°C. Habitat: Pine, fir, juniper, and aspen forest. Open fields with scattered sagebrush.. Specific location: Pullout next to Rock Creek where the creek forms a pond near the road., Cassia Co., Idaho, United States. Latitude: 42.20474, Longitude: -114.28179, Elevation: 1,707 meters. ID’d by: Sight and sound 100%. Playback: No .
