Observation details

While I did not hear the bird calling west of Girdham at 5:30am, what was presumably the same bird was singing just NW of the intersection of Monclova and Wilkins Roads. It was both in the new cutover field and in the narrow strip of woods along Wilkins just N of Monclova. This spot is about 1.5 miles from the Girdham Road site. A recording is included where the Chuck-will's-widow's calls were largely drowned out by a nearby whip-poor-will. I also heard the Chuck-will's-widow‘s growling call as well as its wing snapping as it flew from one spot to another.
