Observation details

As I passed the dock at the southern end of the wetland an adult rufous rail jumped onto the dock not 5’ from me and issued a couple of SQUEAK! alarm calls. He/she was carrying a worm and ran off, probably to feed it to fledgling(s) (one fledgling observed July 6th here). Makes sense why they are being less secretive and more in the open, defending against intruders.
